This month, Picture + Panel explores the rules of comics with Andy Hartzell (Monday) and Matt Madden (Ex Libris).

All BCAF events are free to attend.  If you wish to pay it forward, a $5 suggested donation helps sustain BCAF's comics advocacy and educational programming in the Greater Boston area.

Picture + Panel is a monthly conversation series that brings fantastic graphic novel creators to the Greater Boston area. Discover terrific authors and fascinating stories that combine text and art through conversational confabulation. Produced in partnership by the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, Porter Square Books, and the Boston Figurative Arts Center, Picture + Panel provides thought-provoking discussions for adults about this unique form of expression.

Book sales are provided at the event by Porter Square Books.

About the Creators

Andy Hartzell's first graphic novel, Fox Bunny Funny, was a New York Times holiday pick. He has contributed to many anthologies, including No Straight Lines (Eisner nomination) and Qu33r (Ignatz Award), and he received an Xeric award for his first comic, Bread & Circuses. He makes his personal paradise in Oakland, CA, where his partner Ron tends the garden, and his boxador Louis tears it up again. He works as an interaction designer and creative strategist when he's not making comics.

Matt Madden is a cartoonist, teacher, and translator. His best-known book is 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style, a comics adaptation of Raymond Queneau's Exercises in Style. His recent work includes the comic books Drawn Onward and Bridge. He has been living in Philadelphia since 2016.
