About the Event

This month, Picture + Panel explores mental health and humor with cartoonists Gemma Correll and Nicole Georges. Briana Martino of the Gwen Ifill School of Media, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Simmons University will moderate.

All BCAF events are free to attend.  If you wish to pay it forward, a $5 suggested donation helps sustain BCAF's comics advocacy and educational programming in the Greater Boston area.

Picture + Panel is a monthly conversation series that brings fantastic graphic novel creators to the Greater Boston area. Discover terrific authors and fascinating stories that combine text and art through conversational confabulation. Produced in partnership by the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, Porter Square Books, and the Boston Figurative Arts Center, Picture + Panel provides thought-provoking discussions for adults about this unique form of expression.

Book sales are provided at the event by Porter Square Books.

About the Creators

Gemma Correll is an award-winning cartoonist, writer, and illustrator. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Elle, and Forbes, among many others. She has written her own books and illustrated several others for adult and children’s publishers. Her design clients include Hallmark, The New York Times, Progressive, and JetBlue. She has done product partnerships with The Whitney Museum, Converse, Keurig, and numerous other brands. Her products are available in various stores, including World Market. Every year since 2016, she has created social media campaigns for Mental Health America during Mental Health Awareness Month. In short, her work is everywhere. Originally from Britain, she now lives in California with her husband and two pugs.

Nicole J. Georges is the author of the Lambda Award-winning graphic novel Calling Dr. Laura and the YALSA Award-winning Fetch: How a Bad Dog Brought Me Home, as well as a forthcoming middle-grade graphic novel, The Ballad of X-Ray and Koko. She divides her time between Portland, OR and L.A.
