About the Event
This month, Picture + Panel turns the pages of history with Glynnis Fawkes and Leela Corman as they unravel the complex tapestry of Women in History. Join us for an eye-opening exploration of how women have been portrayed, overlooked, and reimagined throughout time. Renowned comics scholar Hillary Chute will moderate.

Picture + Panel is a monthly conversation series that brings fantastic graphic novel creators to the Greater Boston area. Discover terrific authors and fascinating stories that combine text and art through conversational confabulation. Produced in partnership by Aeronaut Brewing, Porter Square Books, and the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, Picture + Panel provides thought-provoking discussions for adults about this unique form of expression.
Book sales are provided at the event by Porter Square Books.
All events at Aeronaut Brewery are for ages 21+. This event will take place in their 'Food Hub' space.
About the Creators
Leela Corman is a painter, educator, and graphic-novel creator, working in the realm of diaspora Ashkenazi culture and third-generation restorative work. Her books include Unterzakhn, which was nominated for an Eisner Award, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and Le Prix Artémisia; won the 2015 Romics Prize for Best Anglo-American Comic; and received a 2023 MoCCA Arts Festival Award of Excellence, and the short comics collections You Are Not a Guest and We All Wish for Deadly Force. Her work has appeared in many publications, including The Believer, Nautilus, and The Nib. She is a founding instructor at Sequential Artists Workshop and an instructor at Rhode Island School of Design.
Glynnis Fawkes is the author-illustrator of Charlotte Brontë before Jane Eyre and Persephone’s Garden, among other books, and her comics have appeared on the website of The New Yorker. She has worked as an archaeological illustrator around the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, and teaches at the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont.
